Terms of Employment: Permanent, 10 Month Position
Nature of Work
The employee in this position will provide job skill training, job coaching, and job development for students in the Occupational Course of Study (OCS) program. Maintains confidentiality and complies with all federal, state, and local laws, regulations, guidelines, and procedures as they relate to the special education program throughout the district.
Qualifications and Licensure
- Associates degree (or higher) from an accredited college or university; or
- Two years of higher education (equivalent to 48 credit hours)
- Must obtain a valid commercial driver's license with passenger and bus endorsement in the State of North Carolina
- Must hold Commercial Driver’s License with P and S Endorsement
- Employment is dependent upon ability and availability to drive a bus
Duties and Responsibilities
- Serve as a collaborative member of the program by providing job skill training, job coaching and job development for students in the OCS program.
- Assist with the identification and development of Community Based Vocational Training sites, paid employment sites, as well as on-campus training options, that support the achievement of transition related goals.
- Develops job task analysis and individualized job training plans for use with students.
- Provides supervised job skills training for students on job sites by monitoring work-related behaviors and task completion..
- Conducts vocational, career, and interest assessments to determine career interests, job placement, and assist the IEP transition component development.
- Consults with classroom teachers and instructional assistants on student strengths, needs and interventions..
- Provides support for teachers at IEP meetings by providing verbal and/or written input on job skill progress and areas of vocational interest..
- Assist students with job searching, job readiness skills, and the interview process. Prepares and maintains records and files on student work performance.
- Promotes instruction in self-determination, self-advocacy, social/interpersonal skills, and work-related behaviors..
- Participates in the district staff development program and continues professional growth in the area of assignment.
- Transports students during regular school hours, as required, via the school system transportation program.
- Maintains student confidentiality.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Physical Requirements (if applicable)
- Must be physically able to exert up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push pull, or otherwise move objects.
- Must be physically able to operate a variety of automated office machines including computers, calculators, printers, copiers, etc.
- Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for periods of time.
- Work occasionally requires standing, walking, sitting, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms and pushing or pulling.
- Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions.
- Must be adaptable to performing under minimal levels of stress and when confronted with persons acting under stress.

- Ability to participate in specialized training provided by the school system.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school personnel, students, parents, businesses, community agencies, and the general public.
- Ability to comply with Wilson County Schools' Code of Ethics.
