Reports To:  Teacher and Principal

 

Terms of Employment:  Permanent, 10 Month Position

 

Nature of Work:  

A teacher assistant provides support to a lead teacher in charge of a classroom. Teacher

Assistants reinforce lessons by tutoring individual students and/or working with small groups.

Additionally, Teacher Assistants will drive a bus when called upon to do so. 

 

Qualifications and Licensure:  

  • Must hold an Associate’s Degree or have at least 48 semester hours of college credits
  • Possession of an equivalent combination training and experience which provides the required knowledge and skills, and abilities for the position
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and necessary
  • Must obtain and maintain CDL bus license and drive when called upon to do so 
  • Employment is dependent upon ability and availability to drive a bus

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Instructional Assistance
    • Cooperates in developing procedures for the classroom
    • Assists in the preparation of materials 
    • Maintains awareness of goals and objectives of supervising teacher
    • Assists in implementing the planned program
    • Provides information to teacher(s) concerning program evaluation
    • Participates in and facilitates activities to improve effectiveness of the total school program
    • Carries out student supervisory duties in a prompt and reasonable manner to ensure a safe and healthful environment
    • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Clerical/Technical Assistance
    • Collects and records money to established procedures 
    • Maintains classroom files and records in accordance with applicable rules, laws and regulations
    • Perform clerical and other duties as assigned
  • General Classroom Assistance
    • Exhibits positive behavior toward children, parents, staff and administrators
    • Represents the needs of school and children to parents and the community in a positive manner
    • perform other duties as assigned.
    • Conducts self as a positive role model in the school and community
    • Assists students with understanding, interpreting and adhering to laws, rules and regulations
    • Shares the responsibility for school cleanliness and neatness 
    • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Bus Driver
    • Maintain route schedule
    • Supervise students riding the bus
    • Maintain discipline .and report undisciplined students to school administration
    • Discharge students only at authorized stops and transport only authorized students
    • Comply with local traffic regulations and observe all mandatory safety regulations
    • Report delays or accidents 
    • Clean the interior of the bus
    • Perform other duties as assigned

Physical Requirements 

 

Must be able to meet the physical requirements to pass the DOT medical examination
