Description | Job Purpose: To provide assistance to the LEA with the implementation of district literacy initiatives and support language and literacy instruction for school improvement.
Reports to: Executive Director of Elementary Curriculum and Instruction
Duration: 12 month position
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years experience in an educational capacity including a combination of teaching, supervision, or other leadership role; Masters Degree preferred
- Certified North Carolina teaching license
- Exceptionally strong organizational, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills required
- Must be capable of establishing rapport and trust quickly with a variety of individuals within school, district and community
- Must be able to embrace and encourage the acceptance of diversity
- Must be able to create a positive atmosphere that promotes cooperation with administration, parents, coworkers, and students
- Exhibit in-depth knowledge of the North Carolina Standard Course of Study and strong instructional pedagogy
- Awareness of local, state, and federal policies that impact students
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate instructional leadership and professionalism
- Maintains on-going and frequent assistance to 3rd-5th classroom teachers in lesson planning, critical thinking and problem solving, and keeping up to date with the most innovative pedagogical approaches
- Support pilot, adoption, and implementation of core curricular materials in ELA to align with content standards; review materials, communicate with vendors; coordinate a comprehensive feedback, data collection, and synthesis process that includes teachers, administrators, parents, and other stakeholders; coordinate the professional development and ongoing teacher and central office inquiry after materials have been adopted
- Work collaboratively with the Principal, LEA, and staff to fulfill the goals of the district literacy initiatives to enhance school improvement
- Support the design and facilitation of ongoing professional development and coaching for teachers and administration
- Provide constructive feedback to teachers in their approach and instruction in reading and writing
- Assist with implementing a balanced approach of direct teaching using authentic, literature- based reading and writing opportunities
- Provide district professional development in current effective literacy approached
- Model lessons, co-teach, and provide job-embedded professional development based upon individual teacher, student, and school needs
- Disaggregate and analyze data to assist teachers in targeting instruction, enhance student learning, and inform teacher practice
- Attend all district meeting and professional development as required
- Perform all other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor or superintendent
